Thank you for the thoughtful message and the cute sticker! I'm happy that you remembered me, and I surely didn't forget my own words, either! I hope that the little gift pleases you. I'm doing well. (smile!) I met a kind person named Gareki who hired me, and he even feeds me! But he can be such a bully sometimes... Oh well, I think he's just really shy. I hope that we can see each other again soon! Take care!
[ It would probably be bad not to return the gift after all this.
Though he's still not totally sure what the "hyung" is for.
A few hours later, Nuri receives a response in the same fashion that he sent Tyr's. Except that instead of a gift box, he gets a plastic takeaway container of food with a note taped to the lid. ]
Nuri:
Thank you for the letter and the chocolates. I'm glad that you have found employment and someone to look after you while you're here. Hopefully Gareki really is just acting shyly towards you.
If you want to meet again, you can just send me a message. Because there aren't any classes at this time of year, I'm not that busy.
Enjoy the desserts. I wasn't sure if you'd had them before or what flavor you'd like, so I got you a few.
I had no intention as to draw in any attention during the picnic earlier today. While I'm not meaning to pry, either, I could only be concerned over your mood.
[ He's not sure how to respond to this. While Ion is one of his best friends and he couldn't doubt that he'd notice Tyr's feelings, he's still just not sure what to say.
Tyr can say, however, with certainty that he respects Ion enough to respond and trusts him enough to not try to lie. ]
[ Tyr was in the dead of sleep when his phone beeped and buzzed on his nightstand. Just past midnight? Tyr sighed and opened his phone to read the message, bleary eyes going over it once and then again.
Something important.
It was so vague he might have ignored it until morning if it was anyone else, but he trusted Ion, and if it was important in his opinion, it was probably legitimately important.
I look forward to your response.
He sighed again and hit the reply button to send that awaited response. ]
I had fallen asleep with the television off. I was woken up to a noise and the television then on. There were a few members of the community displayed on the screen and did not appear to be conscious. I would not say that they were shown to be alive.
[ Tyr's mind is still not awake enough to fully comprehend what Ion is saying. Or maybe he just doesn't want to understand it. It doesn't feel right to him, and he's quick to think of a more reasonable explanation. ]
It might have been a movie. They were acting.
[ But what if they weren't? No, he couldn't think like that even if it doesn't sound like a movie at all.
The more he questions it, the more agitated he becomes. A few seconds after that previous text, he sends Ion another. ]
( in the two month that Michael has been here, he has only had a handful of people leave, but one of those was his best--and first--friend from home. by now he's accepted the idea that Yuuma is gone and while he may not he safe per se, he's safe at least from any shenanigans that their Landlord is capable of.
so, really, he gets it. losing someone isn't easy, but maybe for him it was easier than it should have been. that doesn't mean that he can't be sympathetic, however, if he were to find out that someone had lost someone to.
this morning he comes down to breakfast early as any other day: he's got school to attend, and he's always been more of a morning person anyway, once he gets up and moving. while he's not exactly cheerful he's not in a bad mood, definitely he's what anyone would consider in a normal, mild mood. he'll be smiling as he lays out tea things and a typically sparse European breakfast: some toast, some preserves, perhaps a fruit or a bit of yoghurt. he's no longer rubbing at his eyes and he's dressed for school already. )
[ It was almost amazing that Michael always woke up early, though Tyr had almost been hoping to avoid him. Well, Tyr usually woke up later than he should, so it's no wonder he walks to the kitchen to see his housemate smiling and at work setting up breakfast.
While Tyr might give a small smile, try to be friendly, he looks almost uncertain seeing Michael, glancing away before looking to him once more.
...It wouldn't be fair to him - or any of their housemates - to just turn around and head back to his room (or out of the house) without a word. Instead, he gives Michael a small nod. ]
( well, that wasn't suspicious at all. Michael has come to understand that Tyr is many shades less lively than himself, just as he has come to recognise some of Tyr's moods and gestures. he's even more subdued than normal and he has an inkling that that isn't due to it being morning.
Michael smiles, but obviously there is a question in it. setting down a serviette he says : )
Good morning, Tyr-san. ...Rough night? ( he tilts his head. )
[So it's Christmas Day, and the Landlord's little spell has worn off. Rio is back to her human form, and something else is also back to normal, too.
...Unfortunately, she picked out her gift before it wore off. It's too late to redact it and find something more suitable, though. So when she approaches Tyr, it's with no small amount of mortification. This is going to be so, so embarrassing.]
[ This was going to be awkward. He knew, waking up, that things were different, and seeing Rio, he could tell the same was true for her. On the bright side, he had gotten her two gifts, so he had one to still give her (maybe he could give her the other one when this awkwardness wore off...), and he could only assume she had done the same.
He tried not to look too awkward, keeping his hands in his pockets. ]
[There's a short undertone of "and that's all" to her statement, although she makes no movement to cement that more than necessary. It's awkward enough without her getting all uppity about it.]
Please forgive my choice of gift, though; I picked it out when I was... not quite in my usual state of mind.
[She hands him the box, which contains some rather expensive-looking fishing bait. The catch? ...It vibrates.
Rio looks absolutely humiliated the whole while, for the record. You figure that one out, Tyr.]

...Not that he's particularly annoyed. He simply removes the note and puts the sticker on the note before placing it with his other documents.
Eventually, Riou will find a note taped over his bed. ]
Thank you.

I didn't mean to make you worry.
A close friend of mine left recently.

Would you prefer if I were to let the topic be?

[ He wondered how to go from there, though. Maybe it would help to talk to someone who didn't know anything about his situation.
And he always relied on Ion. ]
The friend who left is one I'll never see again.
